Privacy Policy

ModalFret is a guitar practice app made by ModalFret LLC. This policy explains what information the app collects, why, and the choices you have. Questions: support@modalfret.com.

What we collect

Your account: your email address and password. Passwords are stored as hashes, not readable passwords.
What you save: songs, tabs and Composer pieces you add to your library, the practice challenges you create, and the custom chords, licks, melody songs, strum patterns and progression presets you make.
Your practice progress: practice sessions, time spent in each exercise, scores, and tempos you’ve reached, plus the notes and goals you add to your practice journal, so your progress follows you to any device you sign in on.

What stays on your device

Some information stays in your browser or device, including unsaved drafts, locally stored practice plans, and personal audio samples. Progress and settings that support account sync are stored with your account. Exported files remain wherever you choose to save them.

Microphone

The tuner and some practice rooms can listen through your microphone, only after you turn it on and allow access. The sound is analyzed on your device in real time to check pitch and timing. Live pitch and timing analysis does not upload your microphone audio. If you choose to record in Looper or Sample Recorder, the app records audio on your device; personal samples can be stored locally and recordings can be exported as files. These tools do not automatically upload your recordings to us.

What we don’t do

We don’t sell your information.
We don’t show ads or use advertising trackers.
We don’t use your information for anything other than running the app and supporting you.

Companies that help run the app

Supabase stores your account and saved data and handles sign-in.
Vercel hosts the website and purchase-verification endpoints.
Email delivery providers deliver account confirmation and password reset messages.
Payments are handled by the app store you buy from (Apple, Google or Microsoft) or by our web payment partner. They process your payment details; we never see your full card number. We receive a record that your purchase went through.

These companies may store data in the United States and other countries where they operate.

How long we keep it, and deleting it

We keep your information while your account exists. You can delete your account at any time in the app under Settings → Account → Delete my account. That permanently removes your sign-in account and account-linked library and practice data. Limited purchase verification records are retained to handle refunds and prevent the same purchase from being claimed by a different account. Store providers maintain their own transaction records. Deleting your account does not request a refund. Device-wide settings, local audio samples, and files you exported may remain on your device; remove those separately if desired. You can also email support@modalfret.com for help with deletion.

Your choices and rights

You can ask us for a copy of your information, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it by emailing support@modalfret.com. Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights under local law; we’ll honor those requests.

Children

ModalFret isn’t directed at children under 13, and we don’t knowingly collect information from them. If you believe a child under 13 has created an account, contact us and we’ll delete it.

Links to other sites

The app links to other sites, such as guitar teachers’ YouTube channels. Their own privacy policies apply there.

Changes

If we change this policy, we’ll update the date above, and we’ll tell you in the app for significant changes.
